Fabrice Santoro to Play Australian Open: no surprise, great pleasure.

Santoro supposedly retired after the Paris Masters in November last year but has now changed decided to make an exception for the opening Grand Slam of the year.
The 37-year-old said he wished to "improve his participation record to 70 Grand Slams and become the first man to compete over four decades".
But Santoro was keen to stress that his participation in Melbourne "does not call into question my decision to end my career as a professional player on the ATP Tour".

“I know Wilson will always provide me with the best racket for my game
with the latest technology” Federer said recently after switching to
his new BLX racket. “This change will provide me with the added feel
and performance I want to further enhance my game in 2010 and beyond.”

BLX is the new Wilson racket technology engineered with BASALT fibers
also combining proprietary frame, grommet and grip technologies for
THE PERFECT FEEL.

(BL) stands for basalt which is combined to 9 other variables and in
total, 10 (X) elements are all connected together for the PERFECT
FEEL.

The 15 time Grand Slam Champion, Roger Federer, will be leading the
way with his new Six.One Tour BLX racket starting in Abu Dhabi for his
first match January 1, 2010. Federer’s continued success is a result
of Wilson’s ever evolving technology and BLX is no exception.

“I believe this one was one of the most tense matches I’ve ever
played.” Ferrer said. “I had wishes to cry after the first two sets
and now is the same because I’m so happy. I have to also thank the
crowd for their support.”

“I feel privileged to be Spanish,” Verdasco said. “And to have
teammates like these.”

“To finish the second half of the season with this ending is very
important and nice, especially after all of the problems I had over
those two months,” said Nadal

Amelie Mauresmo gives up

“I don’t want to train anymore. I had to make a decision, which became
evident in the last few months and weeks. When you grew older, it’s
more difficult to stay at the top.”
“It’s a bit sad, but this is the right decision. I was lucky enough to
have an exceptional career and to experience very strong feelings on
the court.”

Federer: "We fly to Dubai and have holidays there for the time being"

“We will not spend much time in Switzerland these next weeks. We fly
to Dubai and have holidays there for the time being. Then the
preparation season follows: Conditioning training with Pierre
(Paganini) and tennis training with Severin (Lüthi).”

“Hopefully I can again take a step forward in December and improve
myself further. This is of course the goal of preparation: to
eliminate the problems I had at the end season, so that I can better
play next season.”

Federer: looking at the bright side, I still had a great season

"Looking at the bright side, I still had a great season," Federer, who completed his career grand slam at the French Open before claiming a sixth Wimbledon title, told reporters"

Looking how deep the game is right now, to finish on top for me is phenomenal.

I don't know, I try not to look at too much what I did wrong this week or what I did wrong today"

This is my last press conference of the year, so I'm happy. I had a good season, and I don't have to answer more questions.

Nadal out of Master. Djokovic crashes on Soderling.

NADAL
"I didn't arrive at this tournament with the full confidence that you
need to win these matches," Nadal said. "And in the moments that I had
to play well, I didn't play well. I made mistakes."

DJOKOVIC
"I think he's the best player so far in the tournament," Djokovic
said. "I didn't enjoy playing today's match, that's for sure. He was
serving really well. All credit to him."

Nadal: My level right now I think is not to be No. 1

NADAL

"If you want to still talk about me [being] No. 1, I can, but I think
is not the right moment. My level right now I think is not to be No.
1," Nadal said. "My level is to be still fighting and practicing hard
to be ready as soon as possible to compete another time with equal
conditions with everybody."

"Sometimes you have some best moments; sometimes you have little bit
worse moments. This probably is one of these moments for me right
now," Nadal said. "Just accept and work to improve the situation."

"The second half of the year was difficult for me," Nadal said. "But I
am working really hard to come back at my best level. I think I'm not
far away from my best level."

SODERLING

"After the first three games, he started to play better. But I still
knew that I was serving well, and I will get my chances in his service
game," Soderling said. "I tried to keep on fighting, keep telling
myself that I will get one more chance this set, and I took it
straight away."

"I never really thought of vacation because I know I was first
alternate," Soderling said. "I tried to prepare as if I was going to
play. ... I wouldn't call it a free chance. I worked pretty hard
throughout the year to get this chance."
